Madeira

As ever technology proves to be a challenge..I tried to send a couple of blogs from my email account on the boat, but they seem to have disappeared in the ether….we had an interesting race down to Madeira…a good start, then dying winds south of the Isle of Wight.

We put our anchor down in deep water twice off the Channel Islands as the tide was taking us backwards.

The wind picked up as we rounded Ushant, and we had a hard slog on the wind down through Biscay, and got a bit of a smacking off Finisterre.  One of our crew members was injured as we took down one of the sails resulting in a detour to Vigo.

We resumed the race in improving weather, with a downwind run to Madeira, although our chosen track meant we got overtaken by Qingdao at the last minute.

Off to the crew prize giving shortly, and we have been asked to wear some rather odd hats in the presence of the President of Madeira.

Race start is tomorrow afternoon, which will be with plenty of wind to propel us south towards the equator, and what will be a very tactical race as we navigate the Doldrums.
